What The Bible Says About Marriage.

WHY A MARRIAGE SERIES?

The downfall of every civilization begins with a collapse in marriage. In the beginning, God designed covenant marriage as the fundamental unit of human society. He called one man and one woman to enter into a one-flesh union that would bring fruitful labor into every neighborhood, would multiply God’s blessings into every town, would extend God’s reign to the ends of the earth, and would bring the kind of stability that would establish empires and kingdoms. Without healthy and God-glorifying marriages, there will be no culture worth preserving, no society left to flourish, and no nation that could stand.

Think about it like a fully ripened apple tree. In a peculiar fit of madness, a farmer could take a baseball bat and knock every delicious honey-crisp apple right off that tree. Nothing would happen, except maybe there would be a noticeable lack of apple pies for Thanksgiving. But, suppose he saw the error in his ways and never undertook such an action again, the apples would come back the following year, and nothing catastrophic would occur to the tree.

The same could not be said if that same farmer decided to take an axe and attack one of the exposed roots that are visible above the soil. In fact, with every root he severs, a specific section of the tree would die until the entire thing is starved from a lack of nutrients.

This is precisely what the enemy has done to civilization since the Garden of Eden. But, instead of attacking its fruit directly, he goes after the marital root of it, poisoning one family after another until the entire society withers. And instead of using an axe, the devil has attacked the roots with various schemes and tactics. He struck the core of femininity so no one knows what a woman is anymore. He has severed the essence of manhood, producing the twin diseases of over-aggressive imbeciles and passive effeminate ninnies. He has poisoned the roots of sexuality so much that a bi-sexual tree fairy (with the pronouns Ze, Zym) mating with a queer curious furry named Mittens seems more natural these days than a lifelong covenant spouse.

Manhood and womanhood are under attack. Marriage and sexuality are under attack. And every institution, from Hollywood to the District of Columbia, is aimed at perverting our children. It is high time that the church says, enough! And it is high time we begin fighting for the only institution God called “Very good.”

This is why I want to do a series on marriage! But, with that said, I have zero interest in contributing my opinion to the matter. Every year a new Christian book on marriage is published, and every year divorce, infidelity, abortions, and a host of other societal perversions increase. It needs to be said by someone, so it may as well be me, that every page of our Christian book publishing apparatus has become as useful to the health of marriage as ten pounds of used toilet paper would be for cleaning the dishes.

This series will not add to the growing noise with my anecdotes, funny stories, and bare lived-out experiences. Instead, this will be a series on what the Bible says. How it defines marriage, sex, manhood, womanhood, gender roles, and many other topics that are long overdue to be addressed. Join us next week as we begin this journey, looking at the design for marriage!
