Christ or Caesar? The Myth of Neutrality in Education

If you believe education is neutral, you’ve already surrendered your child to the enemy.

That lie—crafted in hell and sung sweetly by modern culture—has lulled many Christian parents into silence. Into compromise. Into handing over the next generation to be catechized by the very empire that crucified our Lord.

They say education is about facts, not faith. That schools teach reading, writing, and arithmetic—not morality, identity, or worship. But this is not just a myth. It is a dagger dressed as a diploma. And it is killing the church’s future one child at a time.

THERE IS NO NEUTRALITY

Education is never neutral. It cannot be. Every classroom has a liturgy. Every textbook makes truth claims. Every teacher, whether knowingly or not, is forming souls in the image of some lord.

As Jesus thundered, “Whoever is not with Me is against Me” (Matthew 12:30). That one verse should forever demolish the illusion of spiritual neutrality. There is no spiritual Switzerland—only contested ground. And the minds of our children are the battlefield.

Even subjects we consider “safe”—math, science, grammar—are packed with assumptions about order, purpose, truth, and meaning. And in a classroom where Christ is not honored as Lord, these subjects are subtly re-engineered to serve the god of man. The absolutes remain, but they are hollowed out. Stripped of transcendence. Weaponized for rebellion.

Every classroom is either a cathedral of truth or a temple of lies. Every lesson is a sermon. Every school is a sanctuary—for Christ or for Caesar.

EDUCATION IS DOWNSTREAM OF WORSHIP

Education is not just about information. It is about formation. It shapes not only how your child thinks, but what they love, what they hate, what they fear, and what they will live and die for. It trains their conscience. It molds their longings. It builds an altar in their soul—and someone’s god will sit on it.

This is why God speaks so clearly and forcefully in Deuteronomy 6:

“You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up.” — Deuteronomy 6:7 (NASB 1995)

There is no room for outsourcing here. No government permission slips. No “faith-neutral” gaps. Parents are not called to approve education—they are called to deliver it. To be the theologians of the dinner table, the instructors of the path, the prophets of the living room. To saturate their homes with the knowledge of the Holy.

Education is not optional. It is a covenantal command. And when we hand that command to the state, we do not just fail—we forfeit.

This is not new. Over two thousand years ago, the pagan philosopher Aristotle wrote, “The citizen should be molded to suit the form of government under which he lives.”

And so modern states have done just that. The state knows that if it can shape your child, it will rule your future. And the American educational system has mastered this strategy. It does not aim to merely teach your child how to think—but what to think. And even more deeply, who they are.

State-run schools are not merely secular—they are sacramental. They baptize your children into the religion of expressive individualism, sexual revolution, moral relativism, and statism. They train your sons to despise manhood and your daughters to despise motherhood. They do not just ignore Christ—they replace Him.

The most dangerous false gods are not the ones that scream from the shadows. They are the ones who whisper in bright, well-funded classrooms.

THE CHURCH’S COWARDICE

And here is the scandal: The state understands the power of education more than the average elder board. And Caesar has been far more diligent at forming disciples than many Christian fathers.

The average Christian parent would never send their child to a Buddhist temple five days a week, yet they send them to state schools that preach an equally damning gospel—and shrug.

They know the system is broken. They know what’s being taught. They’ve seen the drag queens, the pornographic textbooks, the gender confusion, the silencing of Christian speech—and yet, for the sake of convenience, tradition, or cost, they continue to offer their children on the altar.

This is not just compromise. It is covenantal betrayal.

You cannot disciple your children for two hours a week and expect them to withstand fifty hours of anti-Christ formation. We are not losing our children because the world is too strong. We are losing them because our homes are too weak.

CHRIST IS LOVE OVER ALL

If Christ is not Lord of all, then He is not Lord at all. And that includes the classroom. As Paul declared:

“He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” — Colossians 1:17

Christ is not just Lord over the pulpit—He is Lord over the periodic table. Over algebra and history. Over literature and biology. Over the blackboard and the whiteboard and the walls of every school.

Abraham Kuyper put it best: “There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry, ‘Mine!’”

Every subject belongs to Him. Every soul is made by Him. And every school that refuses to honor Him is lying.

NOT OPTIONAL BUT WARFARE

Parents, you are not deciding where your child will take classes. You are deciding what kingdom they will belong to. You are choosing the liturgy that will form their loves, the culture that will shape their convictions, the gospel that will claim their allegiance.

If you send them to Caesar, do not be surprised when they return speaking Latin, bowing to idols, and mocking the God you claim to serve.

And one day—perhaps sooner than you think—you will answer to the Lord for whether you raised your children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord… or the propaganda and poison of Pharaoh.

The stakes are eternal.

This is not about curriculum. This is about Christ. It is not about math scores. It is about masters. It is not about academics. It is about allegiance.

There is no neutral ground. There is no third option. There is no such thing as secular safety.

SO CHOOSE THIS DAY

Choose courage over comfort. Conviction over convenience. Kingdom over culture.

Catechize your children or the world will. Train them in truth or they will be trained in treason. Raise them for Christ or watch them fall to Caesar.

Because neutrality is a lie. Education is war. And your living room is the front line.

Christ or Caesar. You must choose. And you must choose now.
