PRIDE MONTH COMES BEFORE THE FALL
“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before stumbling” (Proverbs 16:18).
We should not be surprised that a nation celebrating Pride is falling apart at the seems. What I intend to show is that pride month is a very visible part of the final death rattle that will precede America’s falls.
God told us this would happen.
Pride is not a virtue. It is not a personality in the cornucopia of disparate egos. It is not genetic, innate, or according to nature.
Pride is the original sin. Pride is what turned angels into demons, and Satan from the chief among the angelic hosts to the father of murder and lies. Pride is what turned Adam’s paradise into a graveyard. Pride is the sin that always looks God in the face and says, “I know better than You.”
That is why the creation of an entire month dedicated to Pride should alarm every Christian who still possesses a functioning conscience.
Why? Because it is not merely another holiday (old English for “holy day”) on the calendar. It is not another cultural trend that will come and go like bell-bottom jeans and pet rocks. It is a national and mandated liturgical approach to worship. It is a month-long oracle of doom, preached by corporations, schools, politicians, entertainers, athletes, and activists, as we slip into destruction. It is the annual feast day of rebellion.
And what exactly are we being asked to celebrate?
Not courage.
Not kindness.
Not love.
We are being commanded to celebrate what God calls an abomination.
“You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination” (Leviticus 18:22).
The same chapter goes on to explain that these sins so polluted the nations that God drove them from the land in judgment (Leviticus 18:24-28). The land itself became so sick from their corruption the ground vomited them out.
Think about that.
Many Christians today talk as if sexual sin is no big deal. God describes it as contamination, disease, a scourge that leads to certain ruin and death.
Comparing it to cancer is actually too weak.
Cancer attacks a single body.
This contagion attacks an entire civilization.
Cancer destroys a limited number of organs.
This destroys every institution.
Cancer takes a single life.
This takes entire generations.
Further, a nation can survive many evils, such as inflation, political corruption, foreign wars, natural disasters, and economic downturns. History is replete with nations that endured all of those things and recovered. But when a people begin celebrating their rebellion against God, when they stop blushing over evil and start throwing parades for it, they are sawing through the branch they are sitting on.
Even more, if you are a Christian and you think my words are too harsh, you are the problem. You are no better than a Dr. who knowingly promises decades to a terminally ill patient who has mere weeks to live. It is to do what Jeremiah excoriated the false shepherds of Israel for doing, saying “peace peace” when there is no peace.
Let me be clear, Pride Month is not the disease. It is its terminal symptom.
It is the billboard announcing how far the disease has metastasized.
A civilization does not wake up one morning and decide to celebrate sexual immorality. It grinds through slow and almost impercievable compromises that lead to a cliff of death. It first abandons God. Then it abandons truth. Then it abandons nature. Then it abandons reason. Then it starts congratulating itself, and lauding its compromise as virtue. Finally, it mandates its madness onto the sane and punishes non-compliance.
That is where we are.
And Christians must stop pretending that neutrality is an option. We must stop acting like blatant cowardice is somehow the same as kindness.
We do not hate homosexuals.
We do not hate our neighbors.
We do not hate the individual sinners.
We hate the lie and the disease that is destroying them.
We hate the rebellion that enslaves them.
We hate the evil that is consuming our American nation.
We hate it the same way we hate child sacrifice, adultery, theft, corruption, cancer, and death itself.
Because the fear of the Lord is to hate evil.
And because of that the answer is the same answer the Church has always had.
Preach Christ.
Call sinners to repentance.
Tell the truth.
Refuse to bow.
Refuse to celebrate what God hates.
And we must refuse to prostitute “love” like a whore we call a lady. Loving God means hating evil. Not coddling it and thinking niceness is akin to evangelism.
We must plead with those trapped in this sin to run like Lot sprinted with all his vigor from Sodom, and to yank those caught in the flames of it like we would a baby trapped in a burning building. Passivity is sin. Coddling evil is sin. Pretending to be kind while someone is killing themselves and your country is sin.
The rainbow they wave in defiance belongs to our God.
The sexuality they distort belongs to and was designed by our thrice holy God.
The world they are rebelling against belongs to God.
Pride always comes before the fall.
Not just individually, but corporately as a collection of individuals that we call nations.
