It began with a simple idea…

Why don’t we preach the Bible with passion and conviction?

Instead of creating another entertainment-driven church that looks just like the world, why don’t we simply trust and believe that Jesus will build His Church? Why don’t we trust that He will do that with the means of grace that He has already provided? For us, that means the preaching, singing, hearing, and doing of His Word!

Well…

That is exactly what we did!

After spending years in seeker-sensitive churches, pastors Kendall and Derrick were left wondering if they had missed something. Was this the kind of church that Jesus died to create? A shallow, emotion-driven, over-hyped event that stirred peoples emotions with lights, big sound, and professional musicians, but did little to disciple those people or equip them to live life in Jesus’ Kingdom? After months of agonizing over this, Kendall and Derrick went back to the pages of Scripture, to discover Jesus’ vision for the church. That journey would lead both men to leave their respective churches and join together to plant a Biblically-faithful church in Tewksbury, Massachusetts.

This work began in September 2019 and has continued faithfully along to this day.

By all accounts, 2020 has been a rough year for all of us. We have walked through a global pandemic, food shortages, financial crises, and a contentious season of American politics. But even in all of that, God has been tremendously gracious to build His Church.

Since planting in 2019, The Shepherd’s Church has grown strong in the Word, more in love with the Word, and we too are growing as a ministry. So much, in fact, that 2020 will forever be known as the year we took on our own space. In December of this year, we began meeting at our new home in Chelmsford, MA; no longer renting space from another church, but meeting in our own building!
